I began making pizzas in April 2020 during the first lockdown of COVID-19. One day on returning home from work I walked into my living room to find a big box which had “Ooni Karu 12” printed all over it. This was a birthday present from my father-in-law and I’ll be honest with you, I had no idea what it was! Little did I know that it was going to be a life changing birthday present!
After I’d used the oven twice and made the best pizzas I’d ever tasted, on the recommendation of my wife, I decided to create my very own pizza blog called “scottspizzaproject” on Instagram so I could share my pizza creations with other like-minded enthusiasts and become part of the amazing online pizza community. This also allowed me to connect with more experienced pizza makers so I could improve and continue to learn in my quest for pizza perfection! It became an obsession to continuously improve every time I fired up my Ooni Karu 12. Everything I have learned to date is from watching YouTube videos, reading books and websites, and reaching out to others.
This soon led to some super exciting opportunities! Being chosen to have one of my pizzas features in the Ooni Father’s Day recipe book, being the first ever overseas guest on the “What’s Good Dough” podcast, and working with Matthew’s Cotswold Flour on many recipe creations to name just a few. My proudest moment came in April 2021 when I became an Ooni brand ambassador. Being part of the Ooni team is something I cherish and enjoy every single day. It gives me the perfect platform to do what I love the most, which is helping other people in their own pizza journey.
Another hugely proud moment came in October 2021 when I was approached by Page Street Publishing to create my very own pizza recipe book “The Ooni Pizza Project”! It’s been months of hard work and dedication but the book is now available for worldwide pre-order with an official release date of January 31st 2023. I’m not sure what the future holds beyond this but I do know I’m incredibly excited to continue this amazing adventure!
